On-Line using Zoom:
Each class will be 3 hrs/week; 10-1:00 CT; for 5 weeks. Thursdays Nov 12, 19, Dec 3, 10, 17.
This class is geared toward those who have some basic experience with watercolor and the desire to paint portraits from photo references. It is the first in a series of portrait of classes.
Classes will cover basic fundamentals so you can get more comfort and confidence.
The first day will be on the fundamentals of mixing a believable flesh color and some basic washes. I will discuss different types of images to paint. Some are easier and some are very difficult to paint. See MORE INFO & TIPS “Interesting Subjects”.
Second class: More lessons on the basics, give you suggested methods of getting your portrait drawing on your paper using “interesting lines”. I will demo this and provide you time to paint and time for me to answer questions and give input.
Third-fifth, more info and assistance. This weekly format (hopefully) allows you time to work on your portraits in class and at home. We will discuss your work first on the agenda. Showing your work on Zoom allows others to gain from comments and examples.
As part of the fee I will you mail you a pre-drawn 5×7 face to paint in class, a strip of paper showing my recommend colors for which you can compare your paints and a sample of my blue and red in the values I will reference often! See supply list link below.
Cost is $100. You can pay with check or PayPal. This class size is limited to 8 students. (min of 4)
Email me at Bill@williamwiseart.com. Tell me how you would like to pay and if you have any questions.

On-Line learning is new for many of us but I am excited to be able to teach from My Home to Yours!
This class will use a program called Zoom that you install on a laptop or on a tablet device with a camera.
If you are familiar with using Zoom, great! You know what to expect.
If you have not heard of or used Zoom, or if you want some extra info about using the program, I wrote two articles. First is for those who are familiar with Zoom, the second is for those who are not. Click this link for more information.
Click this link for much more in depth information for those VERY new to Zoom
– You will need a computer or tablet (preferred) with a camera and internet speeds enough to use Zoom. (cell phones are too small)
It is not necessary but I recommend you have a tablet holder (about $20). These holders will allow you to more easily show me your work as you paint! See my link to Tablet Holders/
Using a tablet for displaying your reference photos is way better than printing them out. These holders will be money well spent for years to come.
Interesting Subjects make Interesting Portraits. Do you want your portrait that say “Look at Me” or “Tell a Story” interesting-subjects-make-interesting-portraits
Even if you do not consider yourself a portrait artist. I have two articles to help get your image on your paper. “See how to trace on the screen of an iPad”, and using an app to draw/trace accurate line drawings.
This is not a VERY VERY beginner watercolor class. This is not a course on drawing portraits. (See “Drawing portraits in charcoal” or “Drawing Face and Figure”)
